As I have mentioned, I am an intermittent contributor to the "First 50 Words" blog. This morning, as I was reading through the blog and making a few contributions of my own, I found a poem that I truly enjoyed and wanted to share it here with you. The author is Granny Sue and her work can also be found on her own blog Granny Sue's News and Reviews. (The photo belongs to her as well)
I MISS
I miss tobacco growing tall and gold
and sorghum-making in the fall
I miss Kenneth cutting filth with his scythe
and Dan cutting wood with a band saw
I miss the smell of meat curing in the smokehouse
and my Jersey cow and her warm sweet breath
I miss the days when life was hard
but easier to live because we did for ourselves
I miss old ways and old people who knew them
but never minded showing me how
I miss the faces of young sons who worked hard
but ate hearty of the food they helped to raise
Thanks to Granny Sue for allowing me to republish her poem here.
